I am sure Juan describes himself as white and rightly so. He is a white man who speaks Spanish as his first language. Who are these people trying to fool?
Juan Pablo Galavis, a 32-year-old Latino living in Miami, has been introduced as the next Bachelor. He was born in Ithaca, N.Y., before moving to his parents’ native Venezuela at the age of 2. Galavis attended college in the U.S. but went back to Venezuela to launch a professional soccer career, ultimately returning to play minor-league soccer in Miami in 2008. He retired in 2009, following the birth of his daughter, and now works as music promoter.
Galavis is the 17th man selected to headline The Bachelor, which made its debut in 2002. There have been nine Bachelorettes, including Desiree Hartsock, who sent Galavis home in the sixth episode of the most recent season. All of the previous stars are white.
