Angola Celebrates the New Miss Universe

I had a strong feeling from the outset that this will be the Year for Africa and what a beauty it presented to the world.  Ms Leia Lopes of Angola has a good combination of confidence and humility. I think she was not sure she heard right when she was announced the winner.

My favourite quote of her  when asked about racism she said “any racist need to seek help because it is not normal in this 21st century for people to think that way.”  I think that’s brilliant racism is a mental, psychological and emotional illness and such people ought to be looked with compassion because they can’t help it. So yes, that’s it get help.

I think what put her over the top was the way she answered the last questions:  What would you change about yourself if you could?

“Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing,” Lopes said. “I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”
