Marathon Runners a test of strength and will

The Boston Marathon is a sport that attracts people of all ages, races and abilities. People run for various reasons and causes but it is something that has seeped into our imagination and many people dream of running is this now infamous marathon of marathons.  This is the marathon that Oprah Winfrey completed and inspired many to do the same.

Here are some of the photos that I found to be inspiring – thanks to those who took them as I couldn’t be there but was there in spirit, one day I too will be in that sea of energy!

Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot  21, won the 114th Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 52 seconds on Monday to shatter by 82 seconds the course record set by unrelated four-time winner and fellow Kenyan Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot.Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia took the women’s title in 2:26:11, sprinting to the tape to win by 3 seconds in the event’s third-closest women’s finish.

The 21-year-old also took home a whopping $150,000 plus an added $25,000 for a total of $175,000 in prize money. In Kenyan terms he is a millionaire many times over.  He plans to build his farm by buying many cows.

Great as it is, this is also an environmental disaster.  Let’s hope that all this waste is being recycled.  There has to be a better way to provide water to people, where are our creative minds, let’s come up with a great idea that would eliminate all the paper cups.
