He may just be 14-years-old but Tony Hansberry has already discovered a way of sewing up patients after hysterectomies that stand to reduce the risk of complications and simplify the tricky surgical procedure of hysterectomy 

Tony is only in the ninth grade but he is already being compared to first-year-medical students.

“I would put him up against a first-year med student,” says Angela TenBroeck, a medical lead teacher. “He’s an outstanding young man, and I’m proud to have him representing us.”

Toni hopes to oneday become a University of Florida-trained neurosurgeon.

“I just want to help people and be respected, knowing that I can save lives,” said Tony, the son of a registered nurse mom and an African Methodist Episcopal church pastor dad.

WASHINGTON – Today, President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key administration posts:

a.. Betty E. King, Representative of the United States to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, with the rank of Ambassador

b.. Lillian Sparks, Commissioner, Administration for Native Americans, Department of Health and Human Services President Obama said, “I am grateful that these two talented and dedicated individuals have chosen to serve my administration and the American people, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”

President Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals

today:

Betty E. King, Nominee for Representative of the United States to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, with the rank of Ambassador Betty E. King served as the United States Representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush. In that capacity, Ms. King worked on human rights, children, development, aging and population issues. She was the principal U.S.negotiator on the Millennium Development Goals. Ms. King has an extensive background in philanthropy, having served as the Vice President of the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland, the Senior Advisor to the CEO of the California Endowment in Los Angeles, CA and an advisor to the Atlantic Philanthropies in New York. She was the Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health in the District of Columbia, the Executive Director of the Southwest Society on Aging, the Director of the Arkansas Department on Aging and an Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas. She currently serves on the boards of Refugees International, the United Nations Association of the United States, Phoenix House, and on the Advisory Board of the Annenberg School of Public Diplomacy. Ms. King earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, a Masters degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and was a National Humanities Fellow at Harvard University.

Lillian Sparks, Nominee for Commissioner, Administration for Native Americans, Department of Health and Human Services Lillian Sparks, a Lakota woman of the Rosebud and Oglala Sioux Tribes, has served as Executive Director of the National Indian Education Association

(NIEA) since 2004. Prior to joining NIEA, Ms. Sparks was a staff attorney with the National Congress of American Indians where she worked on international indigenous rights, sacred sites and religious protection, and issues related to youth and healthcare. She also previously served as a law clerk for the National Indian Gaming Commission in the Department of the Interior where she, among other duties, reviewed tribal gaming regulations to ensure compliance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Ms. Sparks is a member of the National Congress of America Indians, the Native American Bar Association, and the National Trends & Services Committee. In 2004, she was named one of seven young Native American Leaders by the USA Weekend magazine. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morgan State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

British Union members have woken up from their sleep to discover that high heel shoes are workplace hazards and secondarily they are also bad for women’s feel.  A law was passed that would prohibit employers to force their female employees to wear high heel shoes to work.  Some women are denying being forced and claim to like wearing high heel shoes is good for their posture, in fact there was a video clip on the news showing women doing aerobics in their shoes to put a little more challenge in their steps but the podiatrists are screaming ahhhhh! that would spoil women’s feet and give them big ugly toes and they would begin to walk like little toads hoping and a dropping.  Anyway, we should be happy there is a law about these things and I guess they expect women to be grateful – what took them so long to notice!

 Hang 55 – all will be better

If you are a young person and stressed out at work, don’t worry be happy – just hang in there until you are say about 55 years old and you will find your stress disappearing as you will be disappearing at that time.

Seriously, a research has come up with claims that they found that people who are older than 50 to 55 could have less stress for several reasons: They might have retired already, gained seniority that offers more control over their work or opted for a less-stressful position.

“As we get older, people’s priorities may also change,” Griffiths said. “They often have caring responsibilities or wish to spend time with grandchildren and develop other interests. Their work and career may not be their primary drivers.”

There you go, aren’t you feeling a little more optimistic now?

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, fans are gathering in various parts of the world to see the much-anticipated film. While the jury is out on whether MJ would have approved it, the money changers have no problem with beating the iron while it is hot. They know if they rest too long and people begin to get accustomed to MJ not being around, they may not benefit as much at the box office. It’s all about money. It’s business as usual and Michael is the product. 

Yes, I may go and see it at the movies or perhaps wait for the video.  I can understand why  some family members would not be there, it’s natural  While the world has lost an iconic figure, a super entertainer, a woman has lost her baby son and his children have lost a much-loved father. It may be too raw for them.  The memories are still so fresh.  They did not have any warning. He was here one day and gone the next. That shocks the system.

Bill was in his glory at a ceremony honouring him for his enduring sense of humor, as he was joined by friends, family and his TV family to celebrate the moment at the Kennedy Centre.  People like Jerry Seinfeld, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Phyllis Rashad, Chris Rock, Willie Nelson among a bevy of others were among the star-studded guests but Cosby’s TV wife had to fly in from London at Cosby’s request to be present at this event. How sweet!. She was performing  she is performing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in London but could not say no to her lovable TV Husband Huxtable.

“We were just so happy to be together,” Rashad said of working on The Cosby Show. “It was so much fun. It really was golden.”  When will there be another show like the Cosby? Surely someone has to have a brilliant  idea.  It was the best show ever!

Congratulations Mr. Cosby, you deserve this honour.
