Canadian shoppers are rushing across the border

Since Canadian dollar gained parity with the US dollar Canadians have been going across the border to shop and they’ve been shopping everything from cars to everyday items and claiming to be getting a real bang for their buck.

That’s all well and good but if the trend continues, that could jeopardize Canadian businesses to the detriment of this country.  I don’t know a lot about finances but I believe the consumer has to think beyond their need to get a deal and think about the overall impact their spending habits can have on the economic health of the country.  A country’s economic health affects all.  I’m not saying do’t shop across the border ever.  There are certain things you can get across the border that you cannot get in Canada.  Canadian businesses have to come up to scratch too in providing more variety.

The other thing is, I believe that the Americans and Canadians should settle for the same currency.  These two countries are like hand in glove.  They depend on each other a lot in trade and exports and they get along exquisitely well. I think the time has come that they settle for a common currency and stop this up and down flow of one dollar against the other. It creates a lot of unnecessary hype.
