Barbara Morgan is  the first teacher to actually made it out into space.  Her colleague, social studies instructor, Christa McAuliffe, never made it out. Morgan who was the backup to for McAuliffe,  had been on hand to see that flight end tragically. That did not deter her from this journey on that fateful day on January 28, 1986. The space ship had exploded just 45 seconds after launch.  It shocked the world and those who did not even know the teacher grieved her untimely demise.
